Bottle Cappers & Capping Equipment
A good seal is what keeps your beer carbonated and fresh — and that comes down to the capper. Whether you’re bottling a single batch or working through a big brew day, the right capping tool crimps a crown cap on cleanly and securely every time. We stock cappers to suit every home brewer, from quick hand tools to bench-mounted machines.
Hand Cappers
The everyday choice. A hand capper (also called a twin-lever or double-lever capper) seats and crimps a crown cap with a simple squeeze — affordable, compact, and perfect for standard glass beer bottles. If you’re bottling the occasional batch, this is all you need.
Bench Cappers
For bigger batches or a smoother action, a bench capper is the step up. Mounted to your bench or bolted down, it caps bottle after bottle with less effort and handles a range of bottle heights — ideal if you bottle regularly or in volume. The magnetic cap holder on many models makes one-handed capping easy.
Crown Caps & Compatibility
Cappers work with standard 26mm crown caps, which we stock in our bottle caps range. Make sure your bottles are crown-seal (not twist-top) — most glass beer bottles are. For swing-top and screw-cap bottles, no capper is needed at all, which is why some brewers keep a mix.
Bottle It Right
Whatever you brew, a reliable capper is one of the best small investments you’ll make — it turns loose bottles into sealed, shelf-ready beer in seconds. Browse our range and match it with crown caps to complete your bottling kit.
FAQS About Bottle Cappers
Hand capper or bench capper? Here’s how to choose the right tool to seal your bottles.
A hand capper is a compact twin-lever tool you squeeze by hand — affordable and great for occasional or small batches. A bench capper is mounted to a surface and caps with a single lever pull, making it faster and easier for larger batches or regular brewing. Both crimp standard crown caps securely.
Standard 26mm crown caps, which fit most glass beer bottles and all our cappers. You’ll find them in our bottle caps range. Just make sure your bottles are crown-seal (the smooth-lipped type), not screw-top.
Crown cappers work on crown-seal bottles — most glass beer and cider bottles, including many commercial ones you’ve saved. They won’t work on twist-top bottles, which have a threaded neck. If you prefer not to cap at all, swing-top and screw-cap bottles seal without any tool.
For most home brewers, a hand capper is plenty — it’s cheap, simple and does the job. Step up to a bench capper if you bottle large batches often, want less hand effort, or need to cap taller bottles. Many brewers start with a hand capper and upgrade later.
Bottle-conditioned beer and cider carbonate in the bottle, so a tight seal is what holds the pressure and keeps your brew fresh and fizzy. A loose or poorly crimped cap lets carbonation escape and can let oxygen in, which spoils the beer. A proper capper gives a consistent, reliable seal every time.
