Making wine at home is fun and easy. If you have the equipment to make beer you will only need a few more items and you are set to go.
We stock a large range of Vintners Reserve Wine Kits which are very popular for the novice wine maker. They are a great introduction to wine making. Each kit makes between 28 and 30 x 700ml bottles. We have many repeat customers with these kits and the end product is regularly described as a $15 to $20 bottle shop equivalent.
Beyond the normal beer making equipment all that is needed is a second fermenter, a wine syphon (a length of hose will do however we do recommend an auto syphon), bottles and either a corker and corks or screw top lids like Novatwists (much easier to use than a corker).
Making wine does take a bit longer than making beer by a few weeks however, it is no more labour intensive.
The process can be summarised into 4 sections:
- Primary fermentation – 5-7 days
- Secondary fermentation – 10 days
- Stabilising & Clearing – 14 days
- Bottling
Below is the instruction sheet that is included with each Vintners Reserve Wine Kit. It gives an excellent overview of the full process including all equipment needed. For the first time wine maker we also sell full wine starter kits at a discounted price.
